Baby camel wool is the rarest fiber found in Mongolia. After some work in development and sourcing, our baby camel wool yarn now compares almost directly to cashmere in softness at a more affordable price. As demand continues to increase in the future, I’m confident baby camel wool will become a larger portion of income for herders in the Gobi which these gorgeous Bactrian camels call home.

By working closely with herder cooperatives that are focused on development, we are able to implement programs that would be difficult without close communication. With the demand provided through our Kickstarter campaign and customers, we were able to start the first procurement of baby camel wool through our partners with the SCU (Sustainable Cashmere Union). This is real progress, with income from tonnes of fiber being sold that might have been wasted due to lack of markets or desire for processing and production. As people hear about our progress and see the fiber and yarn we produce, I have little doubt baby camel wool will increase in price in the coming years.

Haven’t knit with it yet

I just love this color!

Cashmere Yarn - Undyed Cloud Gray - DK

I started to knit the sweater with it and like it so far. Also, I liked the communication with Jon at ula-lia, how fast and efficiently he responded.

Wool cashmere

I haven’t picked a project yet but I am very happy with the yarn. The color is gorgeous!

Thank you Julie! Just a heads up, if you use the cobalt and white together I'd reccomend a prewash of the cobalt to make sure things don't bleed together, but if you use them separately of course you're all good. Thank you again!

Gorgeous colors! Wonderful feeling yarn!

I bought this for a sweater - don't know which one yet, still looking. The color is so rich and beautiful - and the yarn is so soft. I've used baby camel from elsewhere before and I love working with that fiber. This yarn is actually better feeling than what I've used in the past. Can't recommend it highly enough!

Thank you, I'm happy you like the fiber! I think the baby camel wool might be one of the best kept secrets in exotic fibers.

beautiful yarn!

Though I haven't worked with this yarn yet, it is beautiful in the skein! Very soft even before washing, and the natural color is gorgeous. Shipping was fast. I can't wait to get it on my needles!

Thank you Lori! Glad everything got out to you quickly as well

Exquisite yarn, as always!

The Baby Camel Wool Yarn (Raspberry, lace weight) wasn’t for any particular project. I’ve purchased Jon’s yarn and used them for many projects and simply love how they knit up! I just liked the color, and seriously, who couldn’t find a project for such lovely yarn?

Thank you! I'm sure inspiration will strike soon for the right project

Natural white

I haven’t started a project yet but I am very satisfied with the yarn.

Picking projects is always the hardest part, I hope you find something that fits!

So Soft

Love love love this yarn. It is so soft and luscious. Really enjoying working with it.

Good to hear, thank you for the support and the review!

Wow! These socks are AMAZING!

Seriously, these are the softest, warmest, most comfortable, breathable, squishiest, BEST SOCKS I've ever put on my feet! I haven't started knitting yet with my yak yarn, but when I do, I will be wearing these yak/sheep wool socks. I'm actually having some trouble with the idea of taking them off. It's excellent that I bought five pairs. LOVE THEM.

So happy you love them! I think the socks are a bit of a cult classic. They aren't the most popular in general, but those that get them end up loving them! I hope they get a lot of use in the cold days

Heavenly Cream

I received my natural, undyed DK Cashmere at lightening speed. As soon as I opened the package I loved the color (or lack there of) and the feel! In the past, I've purchased the Cashmere Fingering, and the sweaters I've made are gorgeous. Now I'm going to try a heavier Cashmere. Thanks for the great customer service, Jon.

Good to hear Judy, thank you! And thanks for working with me to fix my shipping mistakes. January was a long month!

Beautiful yarn

Love this yarn. Knits up very nice

Thank you, I hope you enjoy your projects!

fantastic!

fantastic yarn, fantastic service. a truly addictive experience

Thank you Joan!

Lovely color and very soft

I got the gold color in this Baby Camel yarn and it’s beautiful. I would call it Marigold or Turmeric as it is between yellow and orange. I started knitting a swatch and it’ll work perfectly with the two cashmere yarns. It’s super soft, I really enjoy this yarn! Be sure to wash it several times before using as it lost quite a lot of surplus dye which could bleed into your other colors if knitting a pattern.

Glad to hear you're happy with the yarn Christine, thank you for the tips about the washing.

Cashmere yarn, undyed cloud gray

After washing the yarn several times to get the spinning oils out, I’m now knitting a swatch for a sweater. The yarn is lovely, wonderful to knit and so soft! Can’t wait until my sweater is finished until then it’ll be a treat knitting it!

I'm glad it opened up nicely after the wash. Goodluck with the sweater!

First timer with cashmere

I knit a chemo hat for my sister in law. I was uncertain about washing the finished hat in hot water but I followed the directions. It came out so soft and I’m sure it will be comfortable and comforting when she needs to wear it. I immediately went on line and bought more skeins of the yarn!

I'm sure it will make a great gift, thank you! And yes it's a bit weird using the hot water wash, but gets easier everytime.

Love this yarn

Love this yarn and that it comes with so much yardage. Lots of other brands don’t. Thank you

Thank you! I'm happy you like the yarn and color

This yarn is amazing. I have bought the yarn in the in the past and I will continue to buy it in the future.

Thank you for the continued support!

This yarn is so beautiful!

Thank you again Susan!

Love this yarn!

I absolutely love the color of this yarn! I’ve used this yarn previously, and the baby camel is a dream to knit - easy to work with and it knits up beautifully. Looking forward to getting this on the needles.

It's definitely a lovely fiber with great value, thank you for coming back!

Gorgeous color

Can't wait to knit another cashmere sweater with my Ula+Lia yarn. Simply gorgeous 😍

Enjoy knitting it up, thank you Colleen!

I wear mine all the time, I hope you get a lot of use from it!

Baby Yak Wool, Mulberry, fingering weight

What an amazing color! I’ve no experience with mulberries so wasn't sure what to expect, even with the pix available. It’s a deeper purple than concord grape jelly…made by a quality jelly company.
There remains a bit of spinning oil scenting the yarn. I don’t find this offensive but those who are sensitive to smells will likely want to wash the skeins before storage and/or use. I’ve never let the skeins air outside but that could help for those folks.
The yarn is tensioned well; no kinking or separation of plies in the yarn. Also, it is SO SOFT.

It’s a challenge to decide if I like the color, the softness, or the texture better …. The winner is the color. The depth is stunning. Knitted things from these skeins will go to the worthiest of my knit worthy people.

Thank you Dana! The washing is definitely a must, and I agree about the color as well. We've got a red, green, and purple yak... maybe a blue next year could work on the yak wool base!

Baby Camel Wool Yarn - Undyed Natural Sand Tan - DK

So excited to knit with this

The color of this yarn is really beautiful and the hank feels super soft and robust to the touch. I can't wait to knit up a cute scarf with this!

It's a great color and will be even softer after a hot soapy wash. Enjoy your scarf!
