The ultimate in luxury! It’s hard to put into words how incredible it is to get bundled up in pure cashmere! Mongolian cashmere is uniquely known for its softness and durability in international markets. With our sourcing partners in the SCU (Sustainable Cashmere Union), we work with sustainability-focused herder cooperatives to procure fiber that is traceable all the way back to the communities it comes from, which are marked as such on their labels.

By working with herder cooperatives that are focused on development and traceability, they are able to implement breeding programs to increase fiber quality and income for the families as opposed to having their premium fiber mixed with other batches from surrounding areas. From increasing health care to business projects aimed at increasing and diversifying income sources, our partner cooperatives work with the SCU to invest the added income to fit their needs best.

Our cashmere comes only from the finest wool from the underside of the goat’s belly and chin. Due to the small amount of cashmere that can be brushed from each goat in the spring, cashmere is a rare and highly sought fiber!

Mix and Match with other ULA+LIA Fibers and Colors!

Gauge and care is consistent across all of our fibers,
so feel free to combine any of our yarn to find the perfect color pairing.

Stunning

I am in awe of the beautifully milled fiber. My only concern is what to pair it with that will do it justice.

I'm glad you like it Lani! Choosing projects is always the hardest part

My entire shipment exceeded my expectations

I haven't started using any of the yarn or fiber I received (kickstarter and addons) but I was blown away by the saturated colors and softness of the spinning fiber. Note that if you think the yarn is not as soft as expected, it does contain residue of spinning oil, and should be washed to let it bloom and reveal it's true nature (this is covered in the FAQ).

Thank you Joan! The hot wash with soap does make a huuge difference in the final feel of the fiber. I'm considering ways to remove the oils with a different dyeing process in the future, but it might also change the saturation and evenness of the dyeing batches. Time to do some experimenting!

My 3rd year, eager for next year!

I figured out how to peel apart the layers of cloud this year to allow for smooth drafting while I spin. And that works on the cashmere cloud I buy elsewhere too, but the cloud from U+L is just better. Maybe because it’s smaller batches or maybe because I get to see pictures of the animals and hear about the ups and downs with the project that give neater results and awesome photo stories to show my fiber friends each year. This year, it seemed like the fiber took a little longer by a few weeks, but I didn’t even mind because this year there were naturally dyed fibers and I finally tried the recycled cashmere mix. I wish I had bought more.

Anyway, I’m a total fan of the whole project, and I love the color selection every year. I just don’t love that I can’t afford to buy every color of every fiber available… except that my money goes WAY farther with U+L even on the stuff I buy after the kickstarter ends, so that doesn’t suck.

If there are any other super low-micron down fiber arts fans out there, sign up for the kickstarter - it doesn’t even mean less for anyone else if more of us join the project, it just means that more Mongolian herding families will get better prices for their fiber because it’s better pay selling it to us more directly instead of to huge textile mills and big fashion companies.

Thank you again Jamie! We seemed to have ironed out some kinks in the spinning fiber packaging and exporting, so it should be continuing indefinitely!

Wonderful fiber

The cashmere fiber is beautifully prepped, color is gorgeous, and it will be a treat to spin. I'm very happy to be a supporter!

Thank you Linda, enjoy the spinning!

Lovely Yarn

This is lovely yarn. Got this to go with some other Ula+Lia DK Cashmere I have. Haven't started on my sweaters yet, but looking forward to using it.

Hats and Scarves for Our Young Adults

Hard to know what nice small gifts to get for our young adults. Hard to do better than cashmere and the fact that it's upcycled just enhances the appeal for them. Challenge to match up on your own but the resulting 3 sets are great. Looking forward to Christmas morning!

Very disappointed

The 100g skein I received was not a continuous string. It was broken up into at least 4 - 5 pieces of yarn. So it’s like knitting and joining 4 balls of yarn instead of 1. On star for the softness of the yarn and the responsible sourcing.

I love the beanie and socks

I have been switching all my clothing out for natural fibers and the socks and beanie are great. Both are quite warm and soft.

Fabulously cosy!

I've used this for weaving a scarf and a wrap, both are soft, light, and sturdy. The yarn is great to work with, the skeins don't have tangles or knots. I've been a backer since 2019 and all the yarns I've got, wool, cashmere, camel, and yak, have been great!

Fisherman’s knit

Haven’t started yet - all feels good and I love the color. The instructions about washing in hot water freaked me out a bit but I will follow them and let you know!

Yes it's a bit strange, but no worries about the hot water. If you run into any issues just send an email to info@ulaandlia.com. Go hotter and rougher with a swatch than you normally would so you won't be worried when washing up your finished item. Everything will soften up a good bit after washing as well!

Gorgeous yarn.

Thank you Maryann, have fun knitting!

Beautiful

Thank you, I hope you enjoy the yarn!

Delightful

I purchased my first three skeins of Cashmere Yarn - Undyed DK last year and recently had a chance to complete a project that has instantly become one of my favorite wraps! It didn't use all of the original purchase so I quickly went on the website to see if there was another (4th) skein available and was so thrilled that there was still one I could add to what remained for a second project. I kept the first project but when I make the next it will be gifted in all it's cashmere softness to someone special. Thank you for these beautiful fibers that knit easily, drape beautifully and soften even more over time. I also deeply appreciate and value that they are created as part of a project to support the Mongolian farmers!

Thank you Beth! I'm happy it worked out for you and glad to hear you'll be sharing another one as a gift!

Great price but I needed to wash my yarn before using. The oil? Used while spinning has an odor. Not bad, I just smell things since my head injury years ago.

Yes some people prefer washing the skeins before knitting, some after. Following the instructions on the card insert in the package or on the washing instructions page under our FAQ should help to remove the oils. I hope you were still able to enjoy the yarn! Please feel free to send an email or a message if you're still having problems.

Beautiful colors

I placed the order to supplement a prior ordered of marled yarn.
It was helpful that the website gave instructions on differentiating between light and dark runs. Unfortunately, I needed aquamarine/navy but order teal/navy. Sure was out of the aquamarine... totally my error.

Hi Dana,

Yes I think it must have been the Aquamarine/Cobalt we did a few years back. If you don't have a project for it you're more than welcome to send it back, just let me know!

Nice stitch dimension

I am knitting socks with it and find the cables are very nice and show up beautifully. I plan on ordering more. I love the colors as well.

Thank you Lauren, I'm sure your feet will love the camel socks!

DL Wool/cashmere blend

I love the Periwinkle color and how nicely this knits up.

Thank you Barbara, I'm glad to hear you're enjoying the yarn!

Yak yarn is fabulous!

This yarn is even better than I had hoped! After being washed, it's extremely soft, yet doesn't show signs of wanting to pill. The knitted fabric has a really nice halo, similar to that of cashmere. And the customer service from Ula & Lia is top notch. I ordered a few extra skeins so that I could complete a sweater and they arrived in less than a week, well before I needed them.

Thank you CJ! It's definitely a night and day difference after it's washed through. I hope your sweater comes out how you hope!

Easy to work with, dark intense color

I had never used this yak wool before but took a chance on it after seeing it reviewed on Bag-O-Day. I have started a knitted hat with it. It has a good tight twist, good stich definition, I am finding it a pleasure to work with. Its a great value. I am waiting to see how much it softens up after the hat is completed. This is a great company, they shop fast and its for a good cause. I feel good about purchasing from them, they also ship really quick too! I ordered a skein of their emerald green cashmere and am looking forwards to seeing how that works out.

Thank you Susan! The review on Bag-O-Day was a great surprise for me. The washing definitely makes a huge difference, so if you're happy now you'll be overjoyed when washed up.

Luscious!

I was amazed how fast it got here! I will not be able to knit with it for a while as we are in the midst of moving our household. But, I had to at least wash it. It washed up beautifully and the color is exactly what is wanted. Can’t wait to get settled in our new house so I can cast on with it!

Thank you Annie, I can't wait to see the project!

Love knitting with baby yak!

Thank you Diane, I'm happy to hear you like the yarn!

Sheep Wool/Cashmere Blend Yarn - Olive Green - Fingering

As always the yarn is amazing! I love the deep green color too. I'm very happy to be able to support this Kickstarter.

Thank you Susan, and thanks for joining the Kickstarter again!

I love this yarn...it's perfect for the sweater I'm making!

Thank you Joan! I hope the sweater comes out as planned.

Wonderful Yarn

Very soft yarn!!! I am happy and excited to work with this yarn! I am knitting a sweater now. A few years ago I ordered yak yarn here and I love my sweater. This is a picture of my yak sweater. I believe my cashmere sweater will be beautiful and comfortable as well.

If you loved the yak I'm sure you're going to love the cashmere too. The sweater looks perfect, thank you for sharing!

Lovely yarn and softness

Lovely yarn, easy to wah out spinning oils for super softness

Thank you Ina, I hope you can find the perfect project for the softness!

Deep Red Beauty

This cashmere is so wonderful to knit with. I'm on my second sweater with Ula & Lia Cashmere yarn. The first was the natural colored (which I dyed after I knit it) yarn. After washing it, I was amazed at how much it "bloomed". Love it!

Yes the washing definitely makes a huge difference. Thank you for building up a wardrobe with our yarns!

Gorgeousness! Love it so much!!

Thank you!

Love it!

I love trying new yarns and this is a wonderful addition to my stash!

Thank you Deborah, I hope you can find a good project for it!
