The ultimate in luxury! It’s hard to put into words how incredible it is to get bundled up in pure cashmere! Mongolian cashmere is uniquely known for its softness and durability in international markets. With our sourcing partners in the SCU (Sustainable Cashmere Union), we work with sustainability-focused herder cooperatives to procure fiber that is traceable all the way back to the communities it comes from, which are marked as such on their labels.

By working with herder cooperatives that are focused on development and traceability, they are able to implement breeding programs to increase fiber quality and income for the families as opposed to having their premium fiber mixed with other batches from surrounding areas. From increasing health care to business projects aimed at increasing and diversifying income sources, our partner cooperatives work with the SCU to invest the added income to fit their needs best.

Our cashmere comes only from the finest wool from the underside of the goat’s belly and chin. Due to the small amount of cashmere that can be brushed from each goat in the spring, cashmere is a rare and highly sought fiber!

Mix and Match with other ULA+LIA Fibers and Colors!

Gauge and care is consistent across all of our fibers,
so feel free to combine any of our yarn to find the perfect color pairing.

100% Pure Cashmere

Always procured from free-range animals raised by traditional herders in the Mongolian countryside.

Stunning

I am in awe of the beautifully milled fiber. My only concern is what to pair it with that will do it justice.

I'm glad you like it Lani! Choosing projects is always the hardest part

My entire shipment exceeded my expectations

I haven't started using any of the yarn or fiber I received (kickstarter and addons) but I was blown away by the saturated colors and softness of the spinning fiber. Note that if you think the yarn is not as soft as expected, it does contain residue of spinning oil, and should be washed to let it bloom and reveal it's true nature (this is covered in the FAQ).

Thank you Joan! The hot wash with soap does make a huuge difference in the final feel of the fiber. I'm considering ways to remove the oils with a different dyeing process in the future, but it might also change the saturation and evenness of the dyeing batches. Time to do some experimenting!

My 3rd year, eager for next year!

I figured out how to peel apart the layers of cloud this year to allow for smooth drafting while I spin. And that works on the cashmere cloud I buy elsewhere too, but the cloud from U+L is just better. Maybe because it’s smaller batches or maybe because I get to see pictures of the animals and hear about the ups and downs with the project that give neater results and awesome photo stories to show my fiber friends each year. This year, it seemed like the fiber took a little longer by a few weeks, but I didn’t even mind because this year there were naturally dyed fibers and I finally tried the recycled cashmere mix. I wish I had bought more.

Anyway, I’m a total fan of the whole project, and I love the color selection every year. I just don’t love that I can’t afford to buy every color of every fiber available… except that my money goes WAY farther with U+L even on the stuff I buy after the kickstarter ends, so that doesn’t suck.

If there are any other super low-micron down fiber arts fans out there, sign up for the kickstarter - it doesn’t even mean less for anyone else if more of us join the project, it just means that more Mongolian herding families will get better prices for their fiber because it’s better pay selling it to us more directly instead of to huge textile mills and big fashion companies.

Thank you again Jamie! We seemed to have ironed out some kinks in the spinning fiber packaging and exporting, so it should be continuing indefinitely!

I wear mine all the time, I hope you get a lot of use from it!

Baby Yak Wool, Mulberry, fingering weight

What an amazing color! I’ve no experience with mulberries so wasn't sure what to expect, even with the pix available. It’s a deeper purple than concord grape jelly…made by a quality jelly company.
There remains a bit of spinning oil scenting the yarn. I don’t find this offensive but those who are sensitive to smells will likely want to wash the skeins before storage and/or use. I’ve never let the skeins air outside but that could help for those folks.
The yarn is tensioned well; no kinking or separation of plies in the yarn. Also, it is SO SOFT.

It’s a challenge to decide if I like the color, the softness, or the texture better …. The winner is the color. The depth is stunning. Knitted things from these skeins will go to the worthiest of my knit worthy people.

Thank you Dana! The washing is definitely a must, and I agree about the color as well. We've got a red, green, and purple yak... maybe a blue next year could work on the yak wool base!

Baby Camel Wool Spinning Fiber 100g

Baby Camel Wool Yarn - Undyed Natural Sand Tan - DK

So excited to knit with this

The color of this yarn is really beautiful and the hank feels super soft and robust to the touch. I can't wait to knit up a cute scarf with this!

It's a great color and will be even softer after a hot soapy wash. Enjoy your scarf!

Tested in 2F/-17C cold

Wore these outside in bitter cold and they kept my hands warm, even through a breeze. Soft and fluffy, long enough to protect my wrists, I'm really happy with these.

Definitely unique and warm, I hope you get a lot of wear from them!

Sheep/Yak Wool Socks

Fiber and socks

Those I gifted the socks love them and one has purchased more from you online. Overall the fiber is nice — the baby yak is very short, the camel is easy to spin, and the cashmere, though not as soft as our local cashmere, is still really nice. I blended the three together for a beautiful yarn. I’m happy to help maintain traditional sustainable herding practices.

Thank you for the support Rebecca!

Lovely Yarn

While I haven’t started a project with this yarn yet, it already has an amazing hand-feel. Very soft and smooth. The colors are also really saturated and lovely. Perhaps slightly darker than the image on my phone browser, but that’s not a problem for me. I feel like I got a massive bargain, too, as this yarn was on sale. Couldn’t be happier. Looking forward to knitting up a sweater with this.

I hope you find the right pattern for it, thank you!

BEAUTIFUL COLOR

It was just what I expected. The colorway reminded me of fresh mowed lawn in spring. The fiber was soft, squishy, and gorgeous. I know it will be a wonderful experience to knit from start to finish.

Happy to hear you like it! I was a bit nervous when I first saw it coming out this year but it turned into one of my favorite colors this season. Thank you!

Gorgeous color and quality

I cannot wait to make something beautiful with it!

Thank you Robin, enjoy the project!

Beautiful Yarn

This is lovely yarn. I am currently working on a sweater out of different ULA+LIA Cashmere and I love this yarn.

Goodluck with the colorwork, I hope it comes out as planned!

Wool/Yak socks--ultimate in softness and warmth!

I bought some wool/yak socks in last year's kickstart and I loved them so much that I bought 4 more pair in 2024! I have very cold-senitive feet and these socks are among the best that I've worn for keeping my feet warm (similar to American Bison socks, which I also wear). I'll continue to replenish my supply for as long as they are offered! (Note--the outdoor temps are currently -18F and my feet were just fine when I went out to go to the mailbox, almost a quarter mile up the road.)

I'm sure they will keep your feet warm for a few seasons, thank you!

Beautiful yarn shipped FAST!

The yarn is soft and has a lovely twist. I washed it in the skein as suggested and the bloom was just delightful.
The natural cream color has depth and will look amazing with the natural chocolate baby yak.
I was very pleased with how quickly my order shipped. It was as close to instant gratification as I could want. I am happy to support a small business with a wonderful mission and the great service is just icing on the cake.

Happy to hear it got to you quickly! We always try to get things in the mail the next day. Enjoy your mix of fibers!

100% sheep wool, Light Melange

Some fibers are both straight and kinked. The kinked strands are soft and not pokey guard hair type. Staple on the straight fiber is about an inch. Those kinky are about 2.5 inches.
Little lanolin left, enough to some teased locks loosely together.

Thank you for the review Dana, I hope it spins up well for you!

It arrived!

Soft and lovely. Color is as pictured. Can't wait to start using it!

Thank you Jean!

Not as expected

Just arrived today. Baby yak not as soft as I thought it would be. Disappointed in the cashmere. Before even rewinding the skein I can see that there is a knot, it's not a continuous length. Perhaps that was noted in the original description, but I am always disappointed when this happens. Overall, somewhat underwhelmed, I guess. I was expecting a nicer "feel" to the yarn, so will have to rethink what I will do with the yarn, since it is a bit scratchier than I was expecting.

Hi Karen, sorry you weren't happy with your order. Generally speaking, a knot or two in 100g of wool is to be expected, but I'm not happy if you're not happy with your order. I've sent you an email!

Most wonderful yarn

This baby camel wool is so unique and lovely. It’s super soft, and I adore the harbor blue color. It is definitely a deep blue.
Knowing the fiber is ethically and sustainably sourced is a major reason why I support Ula+lia and it really is some of the best yarn I’ve ever worked with.

Thank you Jean! The dark harbor blue has been a favorite for a few years now. We might need to make another batch for next season

Cashmere fingering yarn

I have made several kickstarter backings and purchases and have always been very happy with the yarn. This is no exception. Beautiful yarn, not sure what I will make but it will be a joy to have it in my hands. I love the unique yarns and the stories behind them. Very happy customer!

Thank you for all the years of support Denise!

Yummy Yak DK

This 100% Yak DK in Evergreen is exactly what I wanted. If this green were a fragrance, it would be frosty pine trees right after a rain. Just the right shade of green - not too black, not too yellow, not too blue. The yak wool feels amazing and I bet the bloom on it is going to be crazy beautiful. Also, just the most subtle sheen - sigh. So glad I got to join in on the adventure and will order more yarn the next time around. (Photo taken under my Ott light bc the sun has already gone down here)

Thank you for sharing! I'm happy to have the next version of green yak back in stock. We started with hunter green a few years ago and now have the evergreen.

Squishy love

I prefer natural yarn and this fits the bill. Nice feel and look.

Yes we always try to keep a good amount of undyed yarns in stock. I'm glad you like it!

Baby Yak Wool Yarn - Evergreen - Fingering

I really love this yarn! The color is a deep green, so beautiful, and the texture is so lovely. I have been buying your yarns for a few years and I look forward to 2025 yarns.

Thank you Susan! I know we'll have new batches of the natural yak wool colors for 2025 but curious what we'll come up with for the dyed colors

Fantastic Yarn

The cashmere Yarn - Undyed Marled Cream/Cloud - Fingering is simply fantastic. The color has an almost silvery sheen. The cashmere is soft and squishy. Shipping was exactly as promised. Whatever is made with this yarn will be beautiful.

Thank you Linda, I hope you find a good project for it!

looking forward to knitting this up

i have friends who have raved about this yarn. i'm looking forward to knitting it up.

Hi Lee,

Thank you, everything should get to you in the next day or two!

first time with cashmere yarn

Mid-project with this yarn, but so far it is very pleasant to knit with and the color was accurate to the picture online. I did pre-wash the skeins as I read reviews mentioning the spinning oils and that was a bit different than i’ve ever treated cashmere but it went well and I can’t wait to see the finished product after a final washing and see how it wears.!

I'm glad the washing experience wasn't too difficult! I've never felted an item and am quite rough with my yarns and wash in hotter water than most as well. I hope you enjoy knitting it up!
